Overall 239 Central Junior High students were involved in service projects honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Day. Included were several in the school, such as writing letters and creating valentines for patients at Northwest Arkansas Children's Hospital and local veterans. Other students learned CPR in order to apply it whenever necessary. Community service projects are another reason Springdale Public Schools are #THEChoice.
Springdale Har-Ber sophomore Jax Nalley had an idea this past summer. He wanted to unite the district's four high schools (Har-Ber, Springdale, Don Tyson School of Innovation and Archer Learning Center) in an effort to have a voice in the district and the community. He shared his idea with Assistant Superintendent Shannon Tisher, gained the approval of Superintendent Dr. Jim Rollins and began the process. Each school principal chose three representatives and they all meet monthly to make plans. Nalley says, "We wanted student voices to be included in decisions that affect them. We have 31 schools but no unified voice. We believe student voice is important." Dr. Rollins attended the group's first meeting. Meeting number three just took place at Springdale High School. There are no seniors among the selected students so the project will have continuity going into the 2020-2021 academic year. Student voice is another reason Springdale Public Schools are #THEChoice.
